London-born fashion designer Alexander McQueen is one of the most celebrated and iconic names in the business. He graduated from Central St. Martin's and began his career in the mid-'90s, once Isabella Blow discovered him during school, after a very brief stint as head designer at Givenchy, Lee (his real first name and the one used by his closest confidants) soon began creating his own dramatic, awe-inspiring clothing that has since been exhibited in last summer's popular Met Costume Institute display. He had many famous and adoring friends and fans, including models like Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, and actresses like Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow. Had Alexander McQueen surpassed his demons and survived an early death, he would be celebrating his 42nd birthday on March 17th, and the amazing women who wore his gowns would've been celebrating right a long with him.
