Gary Morano, Former Boy Scout Leader, Sentenced For Child Pornography Possession

Former Boy Scout Leader Sentenced For Child Porn

A former Davie Boy Scout leader was sentenced to four years in prison and 12 years probation Monday after pleading guilty to over 100 counts of child pornography, CBS Miami reports.

Arrested in 2010 for possession of child porn, Gary Morano, 67, promised to surrender himself in court Monday if Broward Circuit Judge Jeffrey Levenson would lower his original sentence of 111 years and 11 months.

While under probation, Morano will not be able to visit any child under 18 without supervision, except with his three underage children, the Sun Sentinel reports.

In July 2010, BSO detectives searched Morano's computer and found over 75 images of children between 6 and 10 years old in "sexually suggestive positions, exposing their private areas and in sexual acts with adults."

Detectives were especially concerned with the charges because Morano had been been a volunteer and assistant scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 183 for 2 years before his arrest.

Morano confirmed with BSO that he was the only user of the computer and that he was knowingly in possession of the child porn images. He denied, however, ever touching children.
