Highland Park Students Face Uncertain Future

Kiara Smith's dreams stretch beyond the burned-out buildings and trash-strewn fields near her Highland Park school. The 12-year-old, a seventh-grader at Barber School, focuses on becoming a forensic scientist, even as adults make accusations and place blame for a financial crunch that has put her school district's continued existence in doubt.

Crisis and uncertainty have become the norm in the Highland Park Public Schools.
