'Mad Men': How Matt Weiner Worked In January Jones' Pregnancy (VIDEO)

How Did 'Mad Men' Work In January Jones' Pregnancy?

Even fans waiting to see how "Mad Men" (Sun., 10 p.m. ET on AMC) incorporated January Jones' pregnancy into the new season probably didn't see this one coming. "Mad Men" creator Matt Weiner wrote around Jones' real-life pregnancy by having her character, the former Betty Draper, experiencing an unexpected weight gain. The root cause? A benign tumor on her thyroid.

A heavier Betty seemed less confident, less cocky and less icy than she's been in the past, and that could be a pleasant change for fans, according to E! Online.

Past Magazine was glad the writers didn't use the "classic" television device of positioning Jones behind lamps or having her carry grocery bags and oversized purses all the time.
