Month of Photography Los Angeles (MOPLA) Continues With "New Research" (PHOTOS)

LA's Month of Photography Heats Up

Good news, photography fanatics. This month is Los Angeles' month of photography, MOPLA for short, which means April will be sprinkled with events and exhibitions featuring the brightest stars of LA photography. The next event will be "New Research", a photo projection show curated by Stephanie Gonot at the Standard Hotel.

The theme of this year's MOPLA is "Intersect: An Exploration of Innovation and Technology in Contemporary Photography." Thus photographers will focus on issues of new technologies and their impact on the medium. While most LA imagery revolves around seaside sunsets and stars being just like us, these carefully collected photographers explore the conceptually and aesthetically unexpected topics. One photo depicts a suburban mother shopping at a flower shop with her body painted red. Another photo shows an iPhone resting alongside matches on a windowsill. The diversity of the artists represented depicts the range of the LA art scene, composed of newbies and seasoned favorites.

Photographers include Amy Lombard, Andy J. Scott, Anouk Kruithof, Asger Carlsen, Ben Goddard, Bobby Doherty, Bobby Scheidemann and more. The show takes place Tuesday, April 17 at the Standard Hotel in Hollywood.
