Hawk Camera: Rosie Brings Eyass Its First New York City Meal, A Rat

WATCH: Baby Hawk Hatches, Has First Rat Meal

Rats can be a hazardous source of food for hawks in New York City (R.I.P. Lima) but, save for pigeons, it's probably their most plentiful food supply.

City Room has a new hawk cam for the city to gawk at this year's cast of red-tails, including last year's Bobby and his new mate Rosie. Rosie laid two eggs, one of which hatched Monday, the other Tuesday night. The hatching was, amazingly, caught on camera (below).

The first eyass (hawk hatchling) was treated to morsels of rat from its parents on its first day in the nest, on the 12th floor window ledge of New York University’s Bobst Library.

Watch below as Rosie brings dutifully feeds the first newborn his or her first meal. The cuteness really gets going around the 3:05 mark. Truly, it's so heartwarming we might even send it over to HuffPost Parents.
