The ladies of the "View" got into a heated discussion on Thursday when hosts Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar clashed over comments recently made by Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen.
Rosen came under fire on Wednesday when she said that Ann Romney never worked a day in her life in response to GOP candidate Mitt Romney saying that he asks his wife Ann for perspective on economic issues concerning women. Romney responded to Rosen's comments and tweeted that she chose to stay home to raise 5 boys, which was hard work.
Behar defended Rosen's comments but acknowledged how they could be perceived as problematic. "You can say it was a mishandled quote," Behar said, "but [Rosen] is talking about economic issues and [Romney] is not the one who's putting bread on the table as millons of women are doing."
Hasselbeck staunchly disagreed and railed against Rosen for what she called her "reprehensible" statement. "Women work in partnership with their partners and I think it's terrible that a DNC insider, a liberal insider gets out there and marginalizes and discriminates against any woman whether she's home or working or has kids or not," she said.
"[Rosen] is not marginalizing, she's talking about a specific thing," Behar shot back. "She's talking about earning money."
"She's talking about any woman who is home, who may be home with their kids," Hasselbeck pressed.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg weighed in, stating that Rosen probably spoke before thinking. Goldberg acknowledged that she did not like Rosen's comment "because women who stay home and raise their children are working." Hasselbeck later thanked Goldberg for being "fair."
