Mellisa Mansfield Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Car After Defecating On Side Of Highway

A Georgia woman was arrested in St. Lucie County, Florida for allegedly stealing a car after police caught her defecating on the side of I-95, just a few miles away from the next rest stop with bathroom facilites.

Mellisa Mansfield, 31, now faces charges of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, vehicular theft, and indecent exposure.

A Florida Highway Patrol officer was conducting his normal traffic routine April 8 when he saw a black car pulled off into the emergency shoulder on I-95 and stopped to investigate, according to the arrest report.

“As I approached the vehicle I clearly observed a white female squatting on the passenger side of the vehicle with her pants down below her knees deficating (sic),” the officer wrote in the report. Mansfield had opened the rear car door to shield her from passing traffic.

When he asked her what she was doing, Mansfield said “I am going to the bathroom.” The responding officer noted that she was "very, very, nervous and out of sorts" and "had to think about the name and D.O.B. she was providing to me."

She could not provide her driver’s license and had cold, open beers in the passenger seat of the car, he wrote.

The deputy discovered that the car was listed as stolen in Key West after its owner ran inside the house to grab something and left the key in the ignition.

Mansfield told the deputy that she was driving from Key West and that the car was her boyfriend’s: "I'm not trying to go to jail tonight," she said.

But to jail she went, and Mansfield remains in the St. Lucie County Jail on a $4,125 bond.
