Jonaya Peterson, Connecticut Woman, Narrowly Escapes Car Crashing Through 7-Eleven (VIDEO)

A Connecticut woman got lucky earlier this month after purchasing a lottery ticket at a local convenience store -- but not in the way she had hoped.

Jonaya Peterson was paying for her lottery ticket at a 7-Eleven store in Waterbury, Conn., on Monday, April 2, when a black Ford Explorer smashed through the front of the store and grazed her side.

Security camera footage posted to YouTube that week shows Peterson jumping on the counter to avoid the SUV, which then backed out of the store and sped away.

"Very shocking. I didn't know what to do. I was just standing there. It was so unreal," Peterson told NBC Connecticut after viewing the footage. "I think I'm very lucky. My angels were looking over me because, after seeing that video - it's hard to watch."

Peterson was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and, shorty after, police were able to intercept the driver of the SUV not far from the convenience store, WTNH-TV reports.

Police arrested 31-year-old Dowdell Kennedy Fitzgerald on charges of third degree assault, reckless endangerment, evading responsibility, and operating under the influence, the Hartford Courant reported.
