Brooklyn Mother Of Five Struck And Killed By Secret Service Agent

An unidentified Secret Service agent struck and killed a Brooklyn mother of five as she attempted to cross Atlantic Avenue near Ralph Avenue in Brownsville on Thursday afternoon.

The Secret Service confirms the agent was reportedly on-duty when he killed 47-year old Maria Tripp with a black Chevrolet Impala.

A law enforcement source says the agent had a green light.

Tripp was walking with her 12-year old daughter and 19-year old nephew at the time. A witness described to The Daily News, "She was messed up, she was unconscious. I saw her body on the sidewalk. She was facedown and, oh, my God, the blood....The girl was screaming."

The agent stayed at the scene and Tripp was taken to Interfaith Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The NYPD is investigating the incident.

Thursday's incident is another bruise for the Secret Service, as the agency currently is currently embroiled in an embarrassing prostitution scandal stemming from alleged sexual misbehavior during President Obama's visit to Colombia in April.

Last fall, off-duty NYPD officer Luis Arnao hit and killed a pedestrian while driving his Honda Accord. Arnao was found to have a blood-alcohol level of .07 and was subsequently charged with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and operating while intoxicated.
