Kevin Bristol And His Four-Year-Old Son Killed In Mysterious Thornton Shooting

Father And Son Die In Thornton Shooting

Thornton Police are investigating a Tuesday morning shooting that has claimed the lives of a father and his 4-year-old son.

The father, 30-year-old Kevin Bristol was listed as being in critical condition until he passed away Wednesday morning while his son Michael was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Bristol's wife was in the home at the time of the shooting and allegedly awoke to find the two in a back bedroom suffering from gunshot wounds before calling 911.

According to 7News, initial reports suggested that police were called to the house because a man had shot his son and himself, but investigators are still trying to determine what happened.

Media reports also indicate that no one heard a gunshot.

Police tell CBS4 News they do not have a suspect, that they don't believe there is a gunman on the loose, and believe that the shooter was in the house.

Police say they will be able to release more details after they receive the results from the autopsies currently underway.

"This is a homicide investigation. Until we determine actually what took place, we'll treat it as a homicide and see where that investigation leads us," Officer Matt Barnes with Thornton Police told 9News. "We don't believe that the public's in danger. We believe this is an isolated incident. We're not particularly searching for suspects at this time."

The family released this statement while police continue their investigation:

Kevin is a wonderful father who loves his family deeply. This is an impossibly difficult time for our family and we ask for people to respect our privacy. We are devastated by these tragic events and greatly appreciate the prayers for our family.
