DirecTV Announces Original Drama Series

Taking a page out of Netflix's book, DirecTV is coming out with its own original series. The network picked up "Damages" and "Friday Night Lights" previously.

The original series, titled "Rogue," is a drama centered on an undercover cop who takes on a gangster after her son is killed in a shooting, with Thandie Newton playing the lead role, according to a press release.

DirecTV has ordered 10 episodes of the drama, which gives Newton her first title role in a series. Her previous credits mostly include film ('"he Pursuit Of Happyness," "Crash" and more), but she made appearances on "ER" from 2003-2009.

"'Rogue' is a powerful drama which represents a new model for the entertainment industry by opening up maximum creative opportunities to assemble a stellar international cast led by Thandie Newton and topline writing and creative talent,” said Nick Hamm of Greenroom Entertainment, which is producing the series along with independent studio Entertainment One Television (eOne).

"Rogue" is set to air in Summer 2013.
