Andrew Manesis, Bronx Veterinarian, Arrested For Dumping Bags Of Dead Animals In Westchester

Bronx Veterinarian Charged With Dumping Bags Of Dead Animals On Highway

A Bronx veterinarian has been charged with illegally disposing over 30 bags of euthanized animals along a Westchester highway.

Andrew Manesis was arrested on Friday on two counts of petit larceny, a violation of an environmental conservation law, and scheming to defraud, WABC reports.

66-year old Manesis is the owner of Throgs Neck Animal Hospital in the Bronx and resides in New Canaan, Connecticut.

"Dr. Manesis was entrusted by his clients to dispose of their pets’ remains in a proper and dignified manner," said Westchester County Public Safety Commissioner George Longworth. "Instead, it appears he simply pulled off to the side of a local highway and tossed the animal carcasses into the woods.”

In early April, the bodies of over 30 dead animals including dogs, cats, and one lizard in various stages of decomposition were discovered along the Westchester highway.

Investigators utilized evidence found along the highway to identify owners of two of the dead animals and subsequently trace the animals back to the Throgs Neck facility.
