500,000 Pigs To Be Slaughtered After Hog Farm Shut Down

A half-million pigs in Chile will be killed after a slaughterhouse was forced to close.

Residents of Freirina, Chile protested the slaughterhouse after they complained about the odor coming from the plant. The protests turned violent, the workers fled and the slaughterhouse was forced to close. The pigs went unattended -- without food and water -- for five days.

The government then ordered a shutdown of the plant, which will "require the removal of nearly half a million pigs from the plant." However, to remove so many pigs, 50,000 trucks would be required. The solution? Slaughter all the pigs. There's no word on what will happen to the 500,000 pig carcasses.
