David Hasselhoff: Leonardo DiCaprio Was Almost On 'Baywatch'

When Leonardo DiCaprio Was Almost On 'Baywatch'

David Hasselhoff worked with many future stars on "Baywatch" during his 220 episodes -- Brooke Burns, Elizabeth Berkley, Mila Kunis and many others -- but did you know that Leonardo DiCaprio almost played his son?

In a new interview with Movieline's Jen Yamato, Hasselhoff confirms the Hollywood legend that DiCaprio auditioned to play Mitch Buchannon's son Hobie, a role that eventually went to Jeremy Jackson. (On the VH1 reality show "Confessions of a Teen Idol," Jackson claimed he beat out DiCaprio for the role; Jackson starred on 160 episodes of "Baywatch" between 1991 and 1999.)

"Yeah, it was true!" Hasselhoff told Yamato during the freewheeling conversation. "I saw Leonardo DiCaprio and I said, 'You know what, that was the best thing that ever happened to you! You would have never gotten 'Titanic' and have been this big star. You’d be like Jeremy Jackson and David Hasselhoff, looking for work.' Ha!"

Despite losing out on "Baywatch," DiCaprio did feature on televisions in 1991: he was famously cast that year as Luke on "Growing Pains." DiCaprio co-starred during the long-running series' final two seasons.
