'Swamp People': An 'Obese' Alligator Proves More Difficult To Catch (VIDEO)

'Swamp People': Catching An 'Obese' Alligator

Obese is a term usually associated with overweight people who reach a certain body mass index. However, the boys on "Swamp People" (Thu., 9 p.m. ET on History) used it to describe Gourmand, a gourmet eater of a gator in the swamp.

At 11-feet long, Gourmand was clocking in at a similar weight to his 13-foot brethren. And at over 1,000 pounds of roly-poly strength and gnashing teeth, Gourmand proved a difficult catch as well. Those extra pounds didn't slow him down at all, nor did they make him any less deadly.

Nevertheless, R.J. and Jay Paul managed to wrangle him in the boat, where they marveled at his girth. The gator had become a problem when he started eating crabs out of the cages of local fishermen. But he won't be a big problem any longer.

Keep up with the excitement on "Swamp People" every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on History.
