Famous Comedian Chosen To Lead The Gay Pride Parade

Pride just might be the biggest event San Francisco has to offer. And with Sarah Silverman tapped to be the parade's grand marshal, this year is going to be bigger and better than ever.

Silverman joins Dot Jones of Glee and renowned drag performer Carmen Carrera for the event, which kicks off at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 24 at Market & Beale streets.

But the parade isn't the only extravaganza gay pride enthusiasts have to look forward to. Earlier this week, Governor Jerry Brown announced that June was officially Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month.

"Our nation was founded on the principle of equal rights for all people, but the fulfillment of this promise has been long in coming for many Americans," Brown said in a statement. Pride, which commemorates the beginning of the Stonewall Riots of 1969, is traditionally held in June.

Though pride weekend officially kicks off on June 23, take a look at the slew of events happening all month long to celebrate San Francisco's bold and beautiful LGBT community:
