Sparkly fireworks -- and the boom, bang and shake that accompany them -- will be seen and heard from downtown Detroit again this year, but the city's long-standing tradition of hosting one of the most celebrated Fourth of July displays in the country could be in jeopardy in years to come.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said Wednesday that city taxpayers alone cannot continue to foot the bill for an event that attracts millions of people from the region.
