Carissa Hads, a 24-year-old Massachusetts woman, has been charged with allegedly engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a 15-year-old West Virginia girl.
According to an affidavit sworn by an investigator with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and obtained by The Smoking Gun, Hads posed as a 17-year-old male named James Puryear Wilson and met the teenage girl via an unnamed "social network site" in October 2010.
Hads allegedly had two sexual encounters with the underaged girl, one of which involved vaginal penetration with a prosthetic penis, the affidavit states. The Smoking Gun reports that Hads never undressed during sex with the girl, and wore a back brace that concealed her breasts.
Hads, a resident of Quincy, Mass., was arrested May 24 after a complaint was filed in U.S. District Court. The charge against her, coercion or enticement of a minor, is a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 30 years.
In West Virginia, the age of sexual consent is 16. Under state law, statutory rape is defined as when a person aged 16 or older "engages in sexual intercourse or sexual intrusion with another person who is less than 16 years old and who is at least 4 years younger than the defendant." Statutory rape in West Virginia carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.
The Smoking Gun reports that Hads maintained profile pages on MySpace and Facebook as Wilson, on which he "claimed to be the father of twins and noted that he was 'looking for some people to talk to. No fake pages or pervs.'" Profile pages for "James Puryear Wilson" appear to have been removed on both networks as of press time.
According to the affidavit, the West Virginia girl used a cell phone to send naked photos of herself to Hads. In December 2011, the two arranged to meet at a Pennsylvania motel. The affidavit also states that the girl's mother and two other 15-year-old children accompanied the young girl on her visit and paid for "Wilson" to stay in a separate room.
Hyper Vocal was critical of the victim's mother, stating that "no matter how well-intentioned, this woman brought her underage daughter across state lines to meet a sexual predator."
During this meeting, the affidavit charges, Hads "digitally penetrated" the girl's vagina. During a trip two months later, to the girl's home in West Virginia, Hads penetrated the girl's vagina using a "fake, flesh-colored penis." The fake penis was found in the front pocket of Hads' pants when police searched her during the May 24 arrest.
According to The Smoking Gun, a criminal investigation of Hads was triggered after an anonymous complaint was filed with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Hads, as Wilson, allegedly threatened a 15-year-old acquaintance of the young girl, who had reportedly questioned her true identity.
The Huffington Post contacted Robert Talkington, the West Virginia State Trooper who swore the affidavit, for comment, but received no reply as of press time.
