Marco Rubio Stays Mum On Mitt Romney Vice Presidential Search (VIDEO)

Rubio Mum On Hot Question

WASHINGTON -- Florida Sen. Marco Rubio isn't shedding much light on Mitt Romney's search for a running mate even after the Republican presidential candidate said his campaign was checking out Rubio.

The 41-year-old first-term senator, a rising GOP star, is firm in saying he won't discuss Romney's selection process.

Rubio said he's confident Romney will make an "excellent choice" and that those who support Romney "should give him space to do that."

Host Charlie Rose tried to ask the question in a different way. "So the question is what happens when you're vetted? I mean, you get a questionnaire? What else do they do?"

Rubio didn't take the bait. "I'm not going to discuss the process. I have a new book out. I don't even know if you've heard about it though," he said. The conversation then turned to his new memoir, "An American Son."

Romney said Tuesday that his campaign is "thoroughly vetting" Rubio, and he took issue with reports about who was and wasn't on the short list for the No. 2 spot.
