Dolphin In NYC Found Dead In The Hudson River

Dolphin Found Dead In Hudson River

DNA Info reports that a dolphin was found dead in the Hudson River near Chelsea Piers on Thursday morning.

A representative for the Riverhead Foundation of Marine Research and Preservation could not confirm just yet if the animal was the same dolphin spotted swimming along the Hudson River from Harlem to Chelsea on Monday.

At this time, it is also too early to identify the dolphin's cause of death.

Although not completely rare, dolphin sightings in New York City waters are indeed scarce.

Kimberly Durham, the director of Riverhead, told the New York Times: “We don’t tend to see them close to shore...If we do, it can be an indication that something is not right.”

In May, a dead dolphin washed ashore on a Sagaponack Beach in Long Island.
