When your big sis is Beyoncé, it may be very hard to create your own lane in the entertainment industry; however, Solange Knowles has done quite fine claiming her position in the spotlight. The Houston, Texas-born beauty's musical upbringing placed her on a trajectory towards fame at an early age--from performing as a backup dancer for Destiny's Child to launching her solo career to co-writing several songs for the '90s girl group (and even Bey's hit dance records "Get Me Bodied" and "Upgrade U").
Now the singer-turned-actress-turned DJ has another title to add to her body of work: style icon. Leaving behind the red-orange braided hairstyles, belly-baring tops and flare leg jeans of her teenage years, Solange evolved into a young woman and mom wearing silk tiered dresses, loose curls and loads of body bronzer. Yet, it was back in 2009 when she debuted a short natural crop that had everyone buzzing about her look. And while we can't get enough of the wild and brightly colored prints and textures Solange pairs with her amazing Afro (yellow is totally her shade!), she sets the record straight that her hair does not define who she is.
