'The Newsroom' Ratings: 2.1 Million Viewers Watch Premiere

'The Newsroom' Premiere Posts Solid Ratings

The premiere episode of Aaron Sorkin's HBO cable news drama "The Newsroom" debuted to solid ratings Sunday night, as 2.1 million viewers tuned in to the show's initial 10 PM airing, Deadline.com reports. A combined total of 2.7 million people watched its two showings.

It's a respectable number for "The Newsroom," which was maligned in reviews leading up to its premiere. By comparison, the premiere of "Girls" drew 1.1 million viewers, while 3.9 million tuned in for the "Game of Thrones" Season 2 premiere and "True Blood" Season 5 recently premiered to 5.2 million viewers.

Earlier in the day, HBO made "The Newsroom" pilot available to non-subscribers by releasing it on YouTube.
