U.S. Air Guitar Championships: Chicago Hosts Regional Finals Friday

Metro Hosts U.S. Air Guitar Championships' Regional Final Friday

Get ready for some serious shredding of the air: Chicago plays hosts Friday to its regional finals of the U.S. Air Guitar Championships.

And a number of extremely talented Chicagoans will be taking to the stage of The Metro, 3730 N. Clark, in their quest to qualify for the finals -- slated to be held in Denver in July. The national contest's two two most recent champions -- Justin “Nordic Thunder” Howard and Matt “Romeo Dance Cheetah” Cornelison -- both call Chicago home.

And Nordic Thunder himself will be competing Friday with his eye not just on repeating his national win -- a feat that has yet to be achieved -- but on claiming the world title.

"I've got a long road ahead of me though," Nordic Thunder recently explained to Gapers Block. "There has never been a US Air Guitar champion to win back to back titles at the finals. So the deck is not stacked in my favor."

Tickets to the event -- showcasing what Flavorpill rightfully described as "the second-most popular private bedroom activity … still a sacred art form" -- are available from The Metro.
