While some teens have fashioned their own unique gowns or constructed their perfect prom dates, two young ladies from the United Kingdom decided to make an unforgettable entrance to the dance by showing up inside life-size Barbie boxes.
The project required nearly $400 worth of supplies, but the plywood and Perspex boxes were a big hit among Emily Pounde and Hannah Jagger's peers, the Sun reports.
Pounde's mother, Christine, created the custom pink and purple packaging, and although "it took quite a bit of work" she told the Western Gazette she has no regrets.
"After all the feedback the girls’ entrance got, I’d say it was worth the effort," she told the paper.
Pounde said she was overwhelmed by the amount of attention she and her friend received.
"Suddenly everybody surrounded us and took photos, I came out of the box shaking, so many people were taking pictures," Pounde told the Sun.
But these two teens weren't the first pair to get dolled-up for their prom.
In 2009, a pair of British students made a memorable entrance by arriving in pink Mattel boxes so detailed they even included a barcode.
Family members dressed up as delivery men and dropped the girls off at the dance where the pair spent about 30 minutes inside the boxes.
And although one of the girls called the experience "hot and a little scary," both agreed it was a worthwhile experience.
