'Turtle Boy': 6-Year-Old Didier Sees Himself For First Time After Surgery To Remove 11-Pound Mole (VIDEO)

Didier became known as "Turtle Boy" (Sun., 9 p.m. ET on National Geographic) because of an 11-pound mole he had grown around his torso which resembled the shell of a turtle. And as it required regular maintenance, the 6-year-old Colombian boy had never been to school and was missing out on much of his childhood.

Doctors diagnosed him as having congenital melanocytic nevus, a rare mole condition. Luckily, their concerns that the mole might be malignant were laid to rest. Even better for the young boy, doctors determined they would be able to surgically remove the mole.

Months later, the cameras were on hand as Didier got his first look at his new body. He was understandably speechless at his normally shaped torso. But perhaps even more exciting, it wasn't much later that he was headed off to his first day of school, and on his way to the normal life his condition could have robbed him of.
