Katie Holmes, Nicole Kidman: Did They Connect Before Holmes Filed For Divorce?

Did Katie Holmes Turn To Nicole Kidman For Support Before Divorce Filing?

When Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, the move probably have shocked some, but Nicole Kidman may not have been among them.

Us Weekly is reporting that Holmes turned to Kidman for support before filing for divorce in New York City on June 29.

Kidman does have experience in the matter. She married Cruise in 1990 and divorced him in 2001.

"They've spoken over the last few weeks," a source told Us Weekly. "Nicole has been supportive, saying she's been through it too and to hang in there."

According to Us Weekly, Holmes and Kidman have been friends since Holmes married the "Mission Impossible" star in 2006. Kidman and Cruise share custody of children Isabella and Connor, with whom Holmes is very close.

"She has been a private friend not many people know about," the source told Us Weekly.

Kidman, who was Cruise's second wife, was shocked when Cruise filed for divorce in February 2001, just a few weeks after the two renewed their vows for their 10-year wedding anniversary.

"I think that divorce is hard for anyone. It's a nightmare, it just is, and you can pretend you're fine," Nicole told Oprah Winfrey in 2001 following her split from the actor. "And days you're great [and] days you're not great."

But Gossip Cop is claiming that Us Weekly's story is false.

Gossip Cop's source says Kidman has "absolutely not" supported or even contacted Holmes throughout the divorce process.

Holmes may not have connected with Kidman, or anyone for that matter, as she operated with extreme care before publicly announcing the divorce.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the 33-year-old used throwaway cell phones to speak with lawyers prior to the official filing.

"Holmes set the wheels in motion for her divorce from Tom Cruise using a throwaway cellphone provided by a friend to initially talk to her lawyers and avoid her husband knowing about the conversations," a source told the Los Angeles Times. "The move allowed her to prepare her legal case without Cruise and his staff knowing she was about to exit the marriage and left him shocked at the sudden divorce."

The details of the divorce have been kept private from the public. What is known is that Holmes will maintain full custody of their six-year-old daughter, Suri.

"The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed. We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life," Holmes' attorney Jonathan Wolfe said in a statement to People magazine.
