'I Survived': Teenager Shot In Face By Boyfriend

On the latest episode of "I Survived" (Sun., 10 p.m. ET on Biography), viewers were introduced to Johanna, who's had to survive more in her young life than most people ever do. At just 13 years old, her mother fell ill and passed away. Two weeks later she lost her father to a car accident.

A few years later, she thought she'd found comfort and happiness in the arms of her boyfriend, Juan. But that relationship took an ugly turn. He became abusive and then raped her. Under house arrest after the incident, Juan wasn't done torturing Johanna.

He waited for her at her home with a shotgun, and before she could react he shot her in the face.

Johanna survived the attack, though she has gone through four years of reconstructive surgeries so far, with more to come. She even told Juan that she forgave him, and prays for him.

Juan is serving a 27-year prison sentence, while Johanna has graduated and taken her experience with her into her work educating people about violence in teen relationships.

Catch new stories of strength and perseverance on "I Survived" every Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on Biography.
