Charlie Sheen, Denise Richards Divorce: 'Anger Management' Star Explains What Went Wrong In Marriage (VIDEO)

WATCH: Charlie Sheen Explains Why He Split From Denise

Charlie Sheen dropped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Thursday night and offered a little insight into what went wrong in his marriage to ex Denise Richards.

"She's a good lady," Sheen, 46, said when asked about the relatively peaceful relationship he has with his ex today. "It was a bad relationship -- we decided we would marry, thought we could fix it through marriage -- wow." (Scroll to the .52 mark in the video to see the exchange.)

The couple's 2006 divorce wasn't any better than their marriage. The split was contentious right from the start, with Richards accusing the actor of drug abuse and threatening to kill her in the divorce doc she filed in April 2006. A few years later, the actors fought for custody of their daughters, Lola, 7, and Sam, 8.

Sheen and Richards' relationship may have improved post-divorce: Although sources recently speculated that the pair aren't speaking after an ill-fated family trip to New York, the couple has mostly kept it peaceful, from vacationing in Mexico with their daughters, to co-starring in Sheen's hit FX-comedy, "Anger Management."

Richards made a guest appearance on the FX show Thursday night as Sheen's love interest, and her character made light of the pair's famously messy divorce: "My ex can be a little difficult. Nuts. A real whack job," she said.
