John Oliver's Campaign Ad Formula: F.L.A.G.S. (VIDEO)

WATCH: John Oliver Knows The Secret To American Politics

A wise man once said, "Campaign ads are the backbone of American democracy -- if American democracy suffered a gigantic spinal injury."

Actually, that wise man was John Oliver of "The Daily Show" and he said it in the above clip from his "New York Stand-Up Show" on Comedy Central.

Now, before you get all U-S-A! on him, the British comedian doesn't just bash America's questionable political system, he also understands it. Oliver knows exactly what we need to hear -- or rather, see -- from a would-be politician in this country, and thats is flags. More specifically, F.L.A.G.S.:

"Think about a number of flags that would actually be offensive, then remove one flag," Oliver explains. "That's how many flags you need."

Yes, Oliver has obviously cracked the code when it comes to campaign ads. Now maybe he can help Mitt Romney out with his?
