The MTV VMA nominations are out, and Rihanna and Drake are have plenty to celebrate. Each artist earned five MTV Video Music Award nominations, the most by any artist.

Katy Perry, who won big at the 2011 ceremony, is close behind with four nominations.

Both Drake and Rihanna earned Video of the Year noms ("Take Care," featuring Rihanna, for Drake; "We Found Love" for Rihanna); they're joined in the category by Katy Perry ("Wide Awake"), M.I.A. ("Bad Girls"), Gotye ("Somebody That I Used To Know").

Drake was also singled out for Best Hip-Hop Video ("HYFR" with Lil Wayne), Best Male Video ("Take Care"), Best Art Direction ("Take Care") and Best Cinematography ("Take Care").

In addition to Video of the Year, Rihanna also earned nominations in Best Female Video ("We Found Love"), Best Pop Video ("We Found Love"), Best Choreography ("Where Have You Been") and Best Visual Effects ("Where Have You Been").

Newcomers also made an impact in the 2012 MTV VMA nominations. Summer sensation Carly Rae Jepsen was nominated in the Best New Artist category alongside The Wanted, One Direction, fun. and Frank Ocean. Unfortunately for "Call Me Maybe" fans, Jepsen's smash earned just that one nomination. (One Direction, which is set to perform at the Sept. 6 ceremony, earned two nominations, including Best Pop Video.)

For the full list of nominees, head over to MTV.com. The MTV Video Music Awards air on MTV on Sept. 6. Alicia Keys and One Direction will perform; the host has not yet been chosen.
