Shelley Berkley Ad Knocks Dean Heller For DREAM Act Vote

Nevada Democratic Senate hopeful Shelley Berkley is accusing Republican incumbent Sen. Dean Heller this week in a Spanish-language ad of wanting "to go back to deporting undocumented students."

The DREAM Act has strong majority support among Latinos, who make up 27 percent of the population in Nevada.

In 2010, Heller voted against the bill, which would have allowed some young, undocumented immigrants a path to legal status if they joined the military or attended college. He explained that decision in a January meeting with a largely Latino audience, saying he supports immigration reform but not amnesty. He said in May that he would consider supporting a DREAM Act-like plan from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), which the senator has since said he will not introduce.

Berkley, currently in the House of Representatives, supported the 2010 DREAM Act and another iteration in 2011.

And Heller and Republicans voted against Pell Grants that make a college education possible for working families. Shelley Berkley and the Democrats expanded Pell Grants.
