Medical Bills: One Way Patients Can Save Money (VIDEO)

WATCH: Company Helps Patients Save On Medical Expenses

Medical bills can be overwhelming -- especially when you don't even know if they're accurate. In 2011, the American Medical Association reported that 20 percent of insurance claims were mis-processed.

Noreen Connolly, a journalism teacher who was diagnosed with cancer in 2009, told CBS News that she was left with medical expenses of $15,000 and $20,000 -- with no way to pay them off. “The more paper I got, the more panicky and depressed I got,” said Connolly. It came to the point where she stopped opening her bills.

Aiding Connolly in cutting medical costs was MedClaims Liaison, a company that sifts through patients’ medical bills and find ways to save them money. The company, which claims a portion of their clients’ recovered money, specializes in cancer, autism, addiction and fertility. Watch the above video for more on how it works.
