Kate Beckinsale And Handler Became Friends Over Their Dogs' Butts, They Share On 'Chelsea Lately' (VIDEO)

It's always fun to reminisce about what lead to people connecting. Couples love talking about how they first met, and long-time friends share stories about how they came to be friends. But Kate Beckinsale and Chelsea Handler had a bizarre explanation for the genesis of their friendship on "Chelsea Lately" (Weeknights, 11 p.m. ET on E!).

While Handler was a little sketchy on the details -- though it was understandable considering what we're talking about -- it all comes down to animal backsides. Particularly, Beckinsale sent Handler a photo of her dog's butt. Handler wasn't sure if it was a dog or cat when she saw the picture.

"Within, maybe, two-and-a-half seconds, I had a picture of her dog’s a------ right back," Beckinsale told the audience. "This is a lifelong friendship."

That story really needed to start at the beginning ... with the part where (and how) Kate Beckinsale decided to send the image of her dog's butt!
