Looking for a way to congratulate this year's Olympians? It may be hard to top the efforts of London's Chinawhite nightclub. The swanky club has been luring Olympic gold medalists with giveaways of its special golden cocktail, normally sold for more than $3,000.
"The athletes have been preparing for this for years, so it is great for us to provide them with a place where they can let their hair down and enjoy themselves," the club's director James Spallone told Yahoo! Sports.
According to Yahoo!, the drink contains Hennessy Paradis Imperial cognac, Luxor 24-carat gold leaf Champagne and comes with a pair of handmade, 18-carat gold rings at the bottom of the glass.
Any Olympian with official credentials is allowed into the club. Swimming stars Ryan Lochte and Tyler Clary are among the many Olympic revelers who have visited the fancy establishment, according to Yahoo's report.
The fancy hangout has been particularly popular with swimmers, since their competitions are winding down. South African swimming champ Chad le Clos recently spoke to the Telegraph about the London 2012 party scene.
“It was pretty cool,” le Clos told the newspaper. “Everyone was there, the Americans and the French team. Pretty much the whole of the VIP area was crawling with swimmers. We all enjoyed ourselves.”
Another athlete eager to let loose after the high stress of Olympic competition was Peter Wilson, the British gold medalist in double trap shooting.
“To get to the Olympics I’ve had six years of really hard work – six years in which you are putting everything to one side, six years where you don’t get drunk," 25-year-old Wilson told the Telegraph. “So it will be wonderful to have a few days where you can just let your hair down.”
Although pricey, Chinawhite's golden cocktail is by no means the most expensive drink on the market. According to Guinness World Records, the priciest cocktail commercially available is the "27.321," which costs 27,321 United Arab Emirates Dirham, or $7,439. The drink is sold at the Skyview Bar of Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai.
However, Olympic athletes looking to blow their bonus checks on outrageously-priced alcohol should take a lesson from a recent incident at the London Playboy Club.
A customer recently managed to destroy a $77,615 (£50,000) bottle of historic Cognac, which dated back to 1788, when he stood up and accidentally sent the bottle flying across the bar floor.
