Solange Knowles Madewell Campaign Reflects Her Quirky Style (PHOTOS)

Why We Love Madewell's New Model

When I first saw Solange Knowles, it was with big sister Beyonce in tow and Jenna Lyons at her side at J. Crew's spring 2012 presentation. Many women (including yours truly) have had a style crush on the singer/DJ ever since, so it wasn't a shock that she Solange just named the new face of J. Crew's younger spin-off, Madewell.

My infatuation with the younger Knowles sister has only continued since this first sighting. When I eventually met and interviewed Solange at a Ferragamo party she was DJ-ing in April, I was totally floored by just how stylish (and modest) the eclectic singer was in person. During our chat, Solange offered tips on mixing and matching prints ("make sure they’re the same fabric"), revealed how she gets dressed in the morning ("I wake up and grab Union Jack leggings, Adidas sneakers and a sweatshirt"), and explained why she lets her 7-year-old son choose his own outfits ("You gotta let him run with it"). What's not to love?

As the younger Knowles steps into her own spotlight, I just hope Solange doesn't tone down her style or become more conventional. Her unexpected taste, ability to wear twelve prints at once, dedication to natural hair and habit of bringing her son to school every morning make her unique in the celebrity world. Modeling for Madewell is only the beginning!

Below, a look at Solange's journey from little sis to style icon.
