Bathroom Ideas: Lori Leibovich, Huffington Post's Executive Lifestyle Editor, Shares Her Renovation Story (PHOTOS)

How She Completely Transformed Her Bathroom From Dated To Chic

For many homeowners, the bathroom is the last frontier when it comes to redecorating or renovating. And that was just the case in the Brooklyn home of Lori Leibovich, the Executive Lifestyle Editor of The Huffington Post. In 2004, she and her husband Larry moved into their three-bedroom Brooklyn loft. Eight years and two small children later, they decided it was due time to remodel both their master and childrens' bathrooms. Due to wear-and tear, the bathtubs were peeling and chipping, the basic fixtures needed an update and most of all, Leibovich wanted these spaces to mesh with the rest of her family's modern home, which has a modern, clean and minimalist aesthetic. She turned to local contractor and kitchen and bathroom expert, Mario Gollin who helped her complete both of these affordable and stylish bathroom renovations.

Because of her busy schedule, Leibovich requested that she could shop for the rooms' new furnishings online. Surprisingly, she was able to achieve a high-end look with fixtures from The Home Depot and IKEA, and is thrilled with the quality of the products. The entire renovation took six weeks, but she said it could have been done sooner if shipping delays hadn't held up the project.

The result? The children's bathroom is fun, fresh and bright while Leibovich's master bath is spa-like and serene. The family's favorite part of both bathrooms are the the penny mosaic tile floors. For the kids, she choose white with blue and orange in a confetti-like pattern, and for her own bath a classic black and white design. They also removed the tub in her room and installed a shower stall in its place, which she says is "life-changing." Her biggest splurge was the sleek custom glass shower doors. She especially loves the deep storage drawers in the IKEA vanities, and needs little additional storage for all of their cosmetics and necessities.
