Erica Wang, the former fiancee of celebrity chef Todd English, was caught shoplifting more than $1,000 worth of beauty products from Sephora on Monday, witnesses said.
This is Wang's third reported shoplifting incident. In July she was arrested for lifting $6,000 in clothing from the Ralph Lauren store where she worked.
She then admitted to stealing a whopping $46,000 in clothes over the course of eight months.
But this time, Wang's shoplifting was coupled with a meltdown of over-the-top proportions.
According to The New York Post, security personnel stopped Wang Monday at a Midtown Sephora when she suddenly broke down in tears screaming, even threatening she would jump in front of a moving car and kill herself.
Wang was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court where she was released without bail. She is charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property.
A Sephora employee who witnessed the chaos said, "She stole from almost every brand in the store. She was obvious about it,” a worker said. “When she walked out of the door, she said, ‘I’ll pay double for everything! Please!’ It took [cops] 15 minutes to get her down the stairs. She knelt on the floor. She said, ‘I have money.’ She pleaded with her hands clasped, ‘I’m the ex-fiancée of Todd English!’"
Ex-fiancee is right. English infamously left Wang at the altar in 2009 and later filed assault charges against her for occasionally beating him, one time with his own watch, causing wounds around his eye.
