'NY Med' Finale: Mother Survives Surgery To Remove Cancerous Tumor The Size Of Her Head (VIDEO)

'NY Med': Woman Has Cancerous Tumor The Size Of Her Head

Rita is a mother to two young children. They must have been foremost in her mind when she got the news that she had cancer. Even more frightening, doctors estimated the tumor was as big as her head. Rita's story unfolded on the season finale of the hit documentary series "NY Med" (Wed., 10 p.m. ET on ABC).

Doctors explained that in order to perform the surgery to remove a tumor of this size, they would need to remove all of the major organs from her abdomen. Then afterwards, they would be able to put everything back in. This, of course, upped the risk factors tremendously for Rita and her family.

"I have two choices. I can do nothing, which is not a choice for me. Or I can fight," Rita said. And fight she did.

The surgery took 18 hours, but it was successful.
