Ryan Walker Grant, Strip Club Owner, Pleads Guilty In Plot To Kill Mayor Of Texas City

A strip club owner who was accused of hiring a hit man to kill the mayor of Arlington, Texas, has pleaded guilty and now faces 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, the Associated Press reports.

Ryan Walker Grant, who was arrested in April, is the co-owner of Flashdancer Cabaret, a strip club near several popular venues including Cowboys Stadium and the ballpark where the Rangers play, according to Court House News Service.

After Grant was forced to close the club following a nuisance complaint from the city, he allegedly went on to offer a confidential informant $10,000 to kill Mayor Robert Cluck and an additional $10,000 to kill Tom Brandt, a Dallas attorney.

According to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth, Grant's lawyer said his client believed his club was going to be shut down for good, which was something he wanted to avoid. He didn't, however, want the men dead.

"He didn't ever really want them killed. There was talk about that. He was frustrated. He doesn't have any ill will toward the mayor in Arlington or the attorney in Dallas," Warren St. John, Grant's attorney, told a local Fox affiliate.

Details from the FBI complaint, as reported by The Huffington Post, showed that Grant started plotting the murders in April using code words:

Grant gave an example that if a movie was playing in Miami then a person from Cuba would fly to Miami to watch the movie, and after watching the movie, that person would go back to Cuba and never come back to Miami. Through conducting this investigation and confidential source information, law enforcement officers have learned that Grant often speaks in code and uses the term "watch a movie" to mean have someone murdered.
