Latino Assimilation, Does It Lead To Discrimination?

Does Assimilation Lead To Discrimination?

Last week, we wrote about Julian Castro's Spanish speaking skills (or lack thereof).

As we read through your comments, we were stuck by this one:

Jessica raises a great question here: Does Latino assimilation help reinforce anti-immigrant and anti-Latino discrimination? Would encouraging more of our children to retain their Spanish speaking skills help change that? Is it even our responsibility to curb outside discrimination? Should we be the ones to change?

Tell us what you think, we want to hear from you. Does assimilation make Latinos more of a target? Let us know what you think in the comments.
