Alexander Aldrich, a student teacher at an elementary school in Lynchburg, Virginia, has been arrested by officials there and charged with four counts of possession of child pornography.
According to WSET, the 22-year-old college student has also been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault on a very small child in neighboring Campbell County. Investigators have not disclosed what college Aldrich had been attending.
Police started the investigation after receiving a tip from someone who knew Aldrich and seized his laptop computer, which is now being processed.
"There's quite a bit on there," said Lynchburg Police Detective Collin Byrne to WSLS. "There will be more charges coming very soon."
Investigators have revealed little about the sexual assault charge, except that the incidents occurred in January and involved a child under the age of 13.
Cindy Babb, a spokesperson for the Lynchburg School System, told WDBJ Aldrich had worked at the R.S. Payne Elementary School from August 21 of this year through September 24th. During that time he was "never in direct supervision or assigned direct responsibility of any students."
Aldrich is being held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority's Lynchburg Adult Detention Center. He has no prior arrests.
