Stacia Rogers, Jerry Montalvo Arrested After Toddler Found Asleep Outside Florida Mall

Couple Left Toddler To Sleep Outside Mall After Drug Use: Cops

A Florida couple was arrested after the 2-year-old girl in their care was found asleep outside a mall.

Witnesses called Kissimmee police at about 2:45 a.m. on Monday to report that the little girl was lying on the ground in front of the Osceola Square Mall's Ross store. The girl had also been seen earlier in the night, wandering outside the closed mall with a shirtless man, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Cops say the man was Jerry Montalvo, 28, who is the boyfriend of the girl's mother, 20-year-old Stacia Rogers. Rogers was at home at the time, while Montalvo -- allegedly on drugs -- wandered the streets with the girl and then abandoned her at the mall.

The girl was found and placed under state custody. Montalvo was found "disoriented and under the influence of drugs" outside a closed Family Dollar store, cops told News 13.

Both Montalvo and Rogers were arrested and charged with child neglect. Records obtained by the Sentinel state that Rogers knew Montalvo was on drugs and allowed him to take the girl out, "therefore threatening the child's well-being."

The couple don't comment on the incident on their Facebook pages, but they do feature plenty of posts showing them smoking cigarettes, flipping off the camera, and making odd comments.

"Haha this was an amazing night even tho i dont remember it," wrote Rogers on a picture of herself smoking.
