'Steel Magnolias': Lifetime Remake Still A Tearjerker

After much hype, Lifetime's remake of "Steel Magnolias" finally arrived, but was it worth the wait? Zap2It started with a perhaps more fundamental question, asking if it was even necessary.

Proving how universal the themes and story were, this new version was filmed with an all-African-American cast, while the story was virtually identical to the feature film. Impressively, for a made-for-cable film, these were some of the top actresses in the business, including Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott and Phylicia Rashad.

Their prowess gave the film a similar sense of gravitas that fans of the 1989 film. The reviewer for Zap2It decided that while the film may not have been necessary, it didn't make it any less entertaining, nor was it less of a tear-jerker.
