Texas authorities have arrested a police officer who is accused of stabbing his wife with syringes filled with animal tranquilizer.

Sheriff's deputies in Bowie County arrested Sgt. David Horn, a 15-year veteran of the police force, at his home in Hooks, Tex. after being called to the scene to investigate a stabbing late Saturday night.

When the deputies arrived, they found an unresponsive female "lying in a pool of blood," according to KSDK.

Witnesses at the house said that Horn had stabbed his wife with syringes of animal tranquilizer and pointed a gun at her head. Horn also allegedly threatened witnesses, pointing a gun at a man, and pushing a woman, Chief Deputy Larry Parker of the Hooks Police Department told KLTV.

Horn's wife was admitted to the intensive care unit at an area hospital, and is in serious condition.

Horn has been charged with aggravated assault and deadly conduct. KETK reports that bond of $600,000 was set for Horn on Tuesday.

Hooks Police Chief Keith Schutte told KLTV that Horn has been placed on administrative leave without pay.
