Yankees vs. Tigers Live Updates: ALCS Game 4

New York Yankees
Detroit Tigers
American League Championship Series
Game 4
Comerica Park, Detroit
4:00 p.m. EST

It's win or go home for the New York Yankees.

After the first attempt at playing Game 4 between the Tigers and Yankees at Comerica Park got rained out, CC Sabathia will now pitch with one more day of rest to try to keep New York's season alive.

Detroit will counter with right-handed Max Scherzer, who (luckily for him depending on how you look at it) will face a Yankees lineup that won't include Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson. In their places, Scherzer will contend with Eric Chavez and Brett Gardner toward the bottom of the lineup.

Is Yankees skipper Joe Girardi making the right move by sitting -- or platooning -- these slumping stars. A-Rod weighed in on Wednesday.

"I was ready to hit, and I was just waiting for my number to be called," A-Rod said on Wednesday via the Associated Press. "Any time I'm in any lineup, I think that lineup is better and has a better chance to win."

With A-Rod out of the lineup again, will the Tigers be able to punch their tickets to the World Series? Or will the struggling Yankees live to play another day?

To bring a bit of local flavor to this live blog, HuffPost Sports has invited Ashley Woods of HuffPost Detroit to chime in on behalf of the Tigers fans and HuffPost Director of Trends and Social Media Dean Praetorius, a lifelong Yankees fans, to represent those fans hoping CC can prolong the ALCS.

AW: 11th postseason trip for the boys in blue and orange. First time since 2006 that they've been in the World Series. And, on a personal note, the Tigers won the '84 series about a month before I was born... so I've never seen them win one. My fingers are beyond crossed now.

@ jcrasnick :

Prince Fielder wasn't going to let anyone else catch that final popup. Tigers win 8-1 -- World Series bound.

@ jaysonst :

Another #Yankees tidbit to ponder: Never scored more than one run in any inning before the 9th -- in the entire postseason.

AW: I just love this team. Sorry, Dean.

DP: At least I didn't end this with something douchey like, "Well, at least I can sleep tonight knowing we've already won 27..."

Nix flies out to 1B Prince Fielder and the Tigers are going to the World Series.

DP: We're speechless in New York.

But in short, this series just wasn't ours. It's not like you guys played spectacularly (though you took it tonight rightfully), but we just weren't up to par. After wasting Ibanez's 9th inning in game one and even Nunez's hope last night, it wasn't in us. Down a captain and riddled with anger, we beat ourselves (as cliché as that is), and the Tiger's just did the job. This week, you were the better team.

DP: Well, that's about right. #thanksfornothingARod
