Boston Trojan Vibrator Handout Proposal Bothers Mayor Tom Menino (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

WATCH: Boston Abuzz Over Potential Vibrator Handout

There's a buzz about Boston Mayor Tom Menino's office lately, and it isn't because of too much coffee. It's the vibrators.

Menino has been leading a charge to halt Trojan (yes, that Trojan), from distributing free vibrators on Boston's City Hall Plaza. The company had originally planned to hand out "Trojan Vibrations" sex toys from "Pleasure Carts" in the plaza as part of a campaign by Trojan's marketing partner, Massivemedia.

Instead, the company recently received a letter from a hot and bothered Menino administration extolling the square's virtues as a family-friendly spot, and pleading Trojan to spread its good vibes elsewhere.

“I am told the public nature of the plaza affords you legal protection to distribute these products should you insist against our objections," wrote Chief of Property Management Michael Galvin in a letter obtained by the Boston Herald, "but I would tell you in the strongest terms allowable that I feel this is an inappropriate and irresponsible use for the plaza.”

Reactions to the proposal in Boston have so far been mixed. Said one woman to WBZ-TV, "That’s awful…kids walk around here!”

But another man countered, “They’d probably only hand them out to adults... They’re not like throwing them out at people, saying, like, get your vibrator over here!”

A similar campaign in New York, held in August, had to be shut down for crowd control after approximately 300 people lined up at two separate carts in Manhattan.

The operation returned the next day (after obtaining the proper permits) and distributed 4,000 vibrators in New York's Meatpacking District.
