Gurnee Schools Lockdown: Classes Resume After Barricade Situation Reported Nearby

Man Taken Into Custody In Barricade Situation Near School

Updated story

Two schools in Gurnee, Ill., went on lockdown Friday morning as a precaution amid a barricade situation nearby.

According to the Daily Herald, an armed man locked himself in his home on Raven Court around 6:50 a.m. Friday.

The barricade situation ended shortly before 11 a.m. when the man was taken into custody, ABC Chicago reports.

The situation prompted the lockdown of Warren Township High School and the River Trail School, whose students were diverted to the Viking Middle School earlier Friday, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A statement on the District 56 website reads that the district has received clearance to allow students to return to school and that classes will resume.
