Giants Win World Series: San Francisco, Detroit Newspaper Cover Pages

San Francisco & Detroit Newspapers React To World Series

For the second time in three years, the San Francisco area newspapers got to splash images of the Giants celebrating a World Series championship across their covers. Unfortunately for the Detroit papers, they had to display the Tigers' sorrow from coming up short in the Fall Classic for the second time in six years.

For the San Francisco papers, the euphoric images of the Giants running onto the field after Sergio Romo's final strike against Miguel Cabrera gave them plenty of material. Not surprisingly, they opted to stay away from the celebratory mayhem.

As for Detroit, it would have been difficult and disingenuous to put a positive the sweep. The Detroit Free Press showed a photo of a gloomy Justin Verlander in the dugout, while another paper used a photo of Jhonny Peralta after one his hard-hit balls landed in the glove of a Giants outfielder.
