Two-and-a-half years ago, Marco Rubio forced one of the most popular Republican figures in the country, Charlie Crist, out of a Senate primary race and then out of the GOP. Crist, who was completing a term as Florida governor, fled the party and ran as an independent for the U.S. Senate seat he and the popular Rubio were seeking, a seat his young competitor won. In the two years since, the Cuban-American has emerged as one of the biggest stars in his party -- at the tender age of 41.
